Able Waterproofing at the top of its game

With a stunning green roof, a landscaping project overlooking the heart of the Capital, Able Waterproofing, one of the country’s leading commercial and residential roofing companies – has been awarded the ‘Contractor of the Year’ trophy at the 2008 MAC awards.

The awards, held at the prestigious riverside hotel, the Royal Horse guards, London, saw Able Contracting head off strong competition to take the top prize. With the accolade under its belt, it will serve to boost the company’s profile as one of the best in the business.

To catch the judges’ eyes the company showed what they had achieved at the International Maritime Organisation in London. It was previously home to a dull and uninspiring terrace roof, until Able Waterproofing flattened this sloped structure and rejuvenated it with a fresh green design which included trees, water features and benches.

Able Waterproofing’s roof design was topped perfectly by mastic asphalt, supplied by Permanite Asphalt. It provided the company with the perfect material to produce a flawless waterproof finish that could be seamlessly moulded around the large number of design features.

The trees positioned on the roof area required sunken pits that had to be 100% waterproof. With a continuous smooth finish, mastic asphalt was shaped around these pits. Due to the use of Permanite Asphalt’s product, there was also no need for root barriers, which would have been necessary had an alternative waterproofing system been used.

The award winning project now provides a green area for staff to congregate and take in the breathtaking views of the Capital that surround the building – a feature that was previously unavailable from the original terraced roof.
