MAC becomes award finalist with CarbonZero

Having showcased its incredible industry wide environmental achievement, the Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC) became a finalist at the hotly contested Best Practice Awards 2008, held by the Trade Association Forum (TAF).

Leading trade association, MAC, ranked above a record number of entries in the Environmental Initiative Award category. Its accomplishment of turning the mastic asphalt industry into 100% CarbonZero – the first entire industry to do so – clearly left a lasting impression on the judges.

This unique initiative saw MAC wipe out as many CO2 emissions as possible, leaving a surplus of just 165kg per tonne of mastic asphalt laid. This is then offset through funding energy efficient projects around the world.

Helping significantly towards Government green targets, it will result in the saving of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO2 every year.

This rightly placed MAC high up on the awards among the other entries short listed, with judges stating that the quality of this years’ finalists was too close to call.

Finalists were selected by the panel of five judges, which included TAF’s chairman, Rob Hayward. They reported that all finalists should be seen as a bench mark for other trade associations to work towards and aspire to, demonstrating the highest standards in innovation and management.

Results were announced on 24th July at The Intercontinental London Park Lane Hotel during a black tie dinner, which saw many of the nation’s construction industry leaders come together.
