Contractor of the year 2008 - Able Waterproofing
Name of Project: IMO Headquarters, Albert Embankment London
About the Project: The International Maritime organisation (IMO) formerly known as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation contracted Able Asphalt to refurb and repair the terraced roof area for a pleasant outdoor space for employees and visitors.
The International Maritime organisation (IMO) chose to use Mastic Asphalt for its seemless finish and its ability to be moulded around features such as benches, water features and trees. However this project came with difficulties, the new design required original layers to be fattened, which caused overlaps with other trades, outlet positions were changed and concrete had to be laid to raise the lower levels.
Challenge Cup - Superior Roofing & Building Services Ltd
Name of Project: Gordon Mansions
About the Project: Roof refurbishment to 2 Victorian Flats at Torrington Place, London. Mastic Asphalt was used as it was simply the best material for this project
Green Award (new for 2008) - Briggs Amasco
Name of Project: Potterrow University – Informatics, Edinburgh
About the Project: The new Potterrow University part of £40m new build was designed from the outset to have the highest BREEAM rating to be achieved in Scotland to date. The aim was to achieve a rating of Excellent with a score of 71%, currently the score is actually 72.5%.
The architect in conjunction with Briggs Amasco, was concerned with the long term sustainability for the roofing aspect of the project and hence chose to specify Mastic Asphalt, because of its superior “green” credentials, durability, quality finish. Plus its robust nature of the product, its longevity and low maintenance costs
Briggs Amasco achieved the above whilst working within a academic environment.
